Royan Institute is a public non-governmental non-profitable organization established in 1991 by the late Dr. saeid Kazemi Ashtiani as an infertility clinic. In 1998 this institute was approved by Ministry of Health as Cell Based Research Center. Now this institute acts as leader of Stem Cell research and also one of the best clinics for infertility treatment. It has 45 scientific members and 53 lab technicians working in 6 departments: stem cells, embryology, genetics, female infertility and andrology.

  • The first IVF birth in Tehran (1993)
  • The second ICSI birth in Iran (1995)
  • Iran second success in open testicular biopsy to treat severe male infertility (1996)
  • The first frozen embryo birth in Iran (1996)
  • The first ICSI birth by frozen sperm of a gonadectomized man (1999)
  • The first celebration of the 1000th birth by the assisted conception treatment in Iran (1999)
  • The first human embryonic Stem Cell line establishment (2003)

Isfahan Campus
This campus was established in 2004. The main activity of this campus are:

  • Cloning and animal reproduction
  • Embryonic stem cell research
  • Andrology research
  • Molecular and genetics studies.

The outstanding works of this campus are:

  • Production of first cloned mammal in the middle-east
  • Assessment of male factor infertility resulting in publication of more than 20 papers in peer reviewed journals
  • 30 MSc. and PhD. students finished their thesis in this campus
  • Routine workshops and seminars and post graduate short courses.
